💡 What is a Token Import?
By default, MetaMask only displays ETH (or the native token of the active network). Other tokens such as ERC-20 tokens must be added manually so MetaMask can recognise and display them.
To do this, you need the token contract address – a unique address on the blockchain that identifies the token.
ℹ️ Importing a token is free and has no effect on your balance. It simply makes the token visible in MetaMask.
💻 Desktop – Import Token
Step 1 – Select the Correct Network
Make sure you are on the correct network. A token always exists on one specific blockchain only.
⚠️ An Ethereum token only works on the Ethereum network,a DeFiChain token only works on DeFiChain Network and a Polygon token only on Polygon, etc.
Step 2 – Open "Import Token"
Scroll down in the MetaMask window until you see the "Tokens" tab.
Click "Import tokens".
Step 3 – Enter the Token Address
Paste the token contract address into the first field.
MetaMask will automatically fill in:
- Token symbol (e.g.
DFI,CFR,LINK)
💡 If the symbol does not appear automatically, you can enter it manually.
Step 4 – Add the Token
Click "Import tokens" and confirm.
✅ The token will now appear in your token list under the "Tokens" tab!
📱 Smartphone – Import Token
The process is identical on iOS and Android.
Step 1 – Select the Correct Network
Tap the network name at the top and select the correct network.
Step 2 – Open "Import Token"
On the home screen, tap the "Tokens" tab.
Then tap "Import tokens".
Step 3 – Enter the Token Address
Tap "Custom token" and paste the token contract address.
MetaMask will automatically fill in:
- Token symbol
- Decimals
Step 4 – Add the Token
Tap "Import" and confirm.
✅ The token will now appear in your token list!
🔍 Finding a Token Address
You can find the token contract address in the following ways:
Option 1 – Block Explorer
Go to the block explorer of the relevant network and search for the token name:

Option 2 – CoinGecko / CoinMarketCap
- Search for the token on coingecko.com
- Scroll to the "Contract" section
- Copy the address for the correct network
Option 3 – Official Project Website
Many projects list their token address directly on their official website or documentation.
